Nessebar is a charming old town and UNESCO world heritage site set on a rocky peninsula linked with the mainland by a long and narrow isthmus. There are 2 main beaches which are amongst the best on the coast. It is set just 3 km from Sunny Beach and is one of the oldest towns in Europe.
It is particularly busy in July and August, and the old town has a few family friendly quaint hotels and over 40 churches, whilst the modern part of the town has more modern hotels and resorts.
The old town has many historical monuments and ancient buildings set amongst cobbled lanes and squares It apparently dates back some 9,000 years and was a fortified Thracian settlement. There are some wonderful shops, flower gardens and traditional taverns and pubs to enjoy.
