Sofia is the capital city of Bulgaria and is very much financial hub of the country. It has by far the largest population with a population of nearly 2 million. It has great history and in the centre there are some beautiful churches, monastrys and buildings of great cultural significance.
Sofia has a very strong economy and the exceptionally favourable tax policy has encouraged a large number of multinational companies to set up large eastern European operations here.
There are a large number of old communist buildings which are being torn down and there has been a strong demand for high end modern apartments as Bulgaria’s economy has grown and a wealthy middle class develops. Good rental yields are often achieved as the purchase levels for a major European capital are still very low. Sofia is the highest capital city in Europe and is the only capital city where you can ski, the city is overlooked by the Vitosha mountains which are busy every weekend with skiers in the winter season. The international airport to the east of the city now has a superb new terminal that opened in 2007.
